The test will be held during the tournament but does not count towards any of the world competition qualifiers. This test is for anyone wishing to test into the Duan Pin grading system set forth by China’s Shaolin Temple.

Contemporary means that your routine has been modified with Wushu style jumps (example: butterfly kick, aerial, split landings, or any type of acrobatic move that was not originally in the traditional form.
Traditional is the way the form was originally taught to you. Generational changes made by your teacher throughout the different generations of the Shaolin Temple (e.g., 32nd, 34th, 35th gen.) still count as Traditional.

Tai Chi forms will only be 4 to 6 minutes long. For Tai Chi Grand Champion. An Athlete may compete in different tai chi styles to qualify for Grand Champion.
Example: Chen 56 Hand Form, Chen Style Fan, and Yang Style Sword.
Grand Champion Competition
Criteria
Athlete competed in “ADVANCED” category.
Athlete competed in at least 3 events and placed 1st in at least 2 of them (Fighting sets and Group forms do not count).
Athletes are eligible for multiple Grand Champion titles but must qualify in those categories.
An athlete cannot do a Modern Wushu event and count that as a qualifier for Shaolin Grand Champion or Traditional Kung Fu Grand Champion. It must be 2 golds in the same category that the athlete wishes to compete for. The only exception is that athletes competing for Tai Chi Grand Champion can do a mixture of the 5 styles to qualify.

Grand Champion brackets will be divided into Men’s and Women’s categories.
Tournament Dress Code
Competitors of the 2024 USA Shaolin Open will adhere to these standards when during competition. Any violations will be addressed on site and competitor will be given a 10-minute opportunity to correct the deficiency.
Approved competition attire
•Shaolin secular disciple uniform
•Traditional Kung Fu & Tai Chi Competition uniform
•Modern Wushu Silk uniform. Southern kung fu style uniform can be sleeveless.
•School/club shirt with Kung Fu training pants (cotton or silk) and appropriate level kung fu sash. If you do not have a school/club, a blank short/long sleeve t-shirt regardless of color will suffice. NO TANK TOPS.
•Martial Arts training shoes are the only approved footwear during competition. No outdoor shoes or sneakers. NO BAREFOOT
